A CTO (Chlorine, Taste, and Odor) carbon block filter is a type of water filter that is designed to remove impurities from water, particularly chlorine, bad taste, and odors.

Chlorine Removal

CTO filters are designed to remove chlorine, which is often added to municipal water supplies as a disinfectant. Chlorine can give water an unpleasant taste and odor, and CTO filters effectively eliminate it.

The filter uses activated carbon, which adsorbs organic compounds that cause bad tastes and odors in water, including chemicals like chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and certain types of pesticides and herbicides.

Lifespan: The typical lifespan of a CTO carbon filter varies depending on water quality and usage, but it generally needs to be replaced every 6 to 12 months.

TO filters can also reduce other contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide, which is responsible for the “rotten egg” smell, as well as some heavy metals. CTO filters are often used as a pre-filter in multi-stage water filtration systems. They prepare the water by removing larger particles and chemicals, making it easier for subsequent filters, like reverse osmosis membranes, to perform more efficiently.
